Back in the 1970s, I was a huge fan of Michael Johnson and his music. One of my favorite record albums was “The Michael Johnson Album,” which featured Michael’s breakthrough hit, “Bluer Than Blue.” One of the lesser played songs was one of my favorite standards, “Almost Like Being in Love,” which Michael sang in a completely different yet very exotic arrangement. The song was digitally remastered in 2002.
I heard this song by Edison Lighthouse on the radio just the other day, which put me in a super happy mood. It also made me smile big and think back to when the song came out in 1970, when I was age … wow! That would be a whopping 40 years ago when I was so young, and life was simpler, kinder and more innocent! And, yes, it dates me. But never mind, okay?! I loved the song when it first aired and I still do to this day, and it’s on my iPod. And then I checked out YouTube to see if I could find the music video. There are quite a few, one of which purports to be the original Edison Lighthouse but it’s not. Edison Lighthouse, a U.K. pop group, initially consisted of studio musicians that served as a vehicle for session vocalist Tony Burrows and songwriter/record producers Tony Macaulay and Barry Mason to record this great song, which became a million-selling record. I just love, love, love this song!!
